The attitude or approach of photographing widely varied events
and situations ranging from a film star’s smile to the agony of a child
paralysed by hunger and disease are an integral part of my career as a
photographer. On this website, the selection of images show the
diversity of subjects on which I have had the luck and opportunity to
work. The origin of my work does not come from the imagination, but from
the « reality » of human activity. It is complex, unpredictable,
extraordinary, astonishing, sometimes brutal and cruel.

Not far from the Kremlin, near Red Square, several dozen individuals come from various provincial regions of the USSR and set up makeshift camps. Among them unemployed persons, orphans, single mothers, veterans, determined to express their demands and their right to decent housing. Vladimir, Nikolai, Natacha and Larissa were all prepared to spend a difficult winter so that Perestroika would at last reach out and give them a helping hand.

Valéry Giscard d’Estaing vient de perdre l’élection Présidentielle. Je planque la sortie de sa permanence rue François 1er à Paris. VGE sait que je suis là. Il est midi, VGE sort, je le loupe, je suis trop loin… Je rentre au bureau de AP Photo, dépité, effondré. Le rédac chef me demande d’y retourner. J’y retourne et attends jusqu’en soirée. Je traine, regarde la vitrine d’un magasin. ..Soudain, à 30 mètres de moi, j’aperçois VGE qui sort et s’engouffre dans sa voiture. Je le loupe pour la deuxième fois. Je suis nul. Je réalise qu’il va falloir envisager un autre « métier »… Bref, Je cours à toutes pompes vers la voiture à la hauteur de la vitre avant.. Giscard m’aperçoit. Giscard est surpris, il ouvre la vitre de sa Peugeot 604 et s’exclame : « Oui… C’est un peu tard !!!!! » Me voyant presque vaciller de honte et de souffrances, Giscard sort de sa voiture, entre à nouveau par la porte cochère ET SORT à nouveau pour la photo. Cette fois ci, je ne le loupe pas. Pleine page dans « LIBE » le lendemain, avec comme titre improbable : « Fausse sortie pour Giscard ». Armés par le gouvernement de Khartoum, pour s’opposer au SPLA (South People’s Liberation Army).Les Toposas les utilisent pour protéger leurs bétails, et accessoirement attaquer les convois humanitaires.
